Thirty Seconds To Mars Unveil Trailer For 'Up In The Air' Short Film
When Thirty Seconds To Mars posted a lengthy (and insanely specific) casting call on their official site earlier this year — one looking for "a very large pet snake," "albino men/women/children" and "a chemist who does science experiments," among other things — you knew that had something big in the works.
And now, we're bringing you an exclusive sneak peek at just what they've been working on — a trailer for the "Up In The Air" short film, which seems to follow in the footsteps 2010's "Hurricane" mini-movie, in that it is once again directed by the mysterious (wink, wink) Bartholomew Cubbins ... and it's general largesse.
Over a bed of ominous music, we catch quick glimpses of a wolf, a lion, a line of soldiers, a plus-sized model and a mechanical bull (to name just a few), and, as Jared Leto explained to MTV News, that's just the tip of the iceberg. Because "Up In The Air" is a short film in just about every conceivable way.
"It's hard to call it a 'music video,' because it encapsulates not just the song, but many songs form the record, and we have an incredible cast of characters: the art of Damien Hirst, and an artist in New York, Maxwell Snow, who came and set a bunch of sh-- on fire," he said. "We have the U.S. Olympic Women's gymnasts, we have Dita Von Teese, we have some Cirque du Soleil performers, we have Shannon, Tomo and me, we have a zebra, a lion, a wolf, a snake, some birds, over 100 butterflies ...it's a Noah's Ark."
There's still no firm release date for the "Up In The Air" short film — Mars will release their brand new album, LOVE LUST FAITH + DREAMS on May 21 — but based on what we've just seen, said date can't come soon enough. Get ready ... this one looks like it's going to be epic.
